PRINTlovers box 2023: Be bold!

Realised by Valtenna with Icma and Luxoro based on a concept by O,Nice! Design

Also in 2023, PRINTlovers starts the year with a special box containing the five issues of the magazine and a wide assortment of samples of printing materials and applications. The 2023 box is a collaboration between three Italian companies of excellence in the world of luxury packaging: Valtenna, Icma and Luxoro. The concept of O,Nice! Design is simple but effective: an invitation to discover a part of oneself capable of daring, stepping out of the lines, upsetting the rules of the game, bubbling with creativity beneath the apparent calm.

How the PRINTlovers box 2023 is made

Printing and converting by Valtenna
Printing and converting were entrusted to Valtenna, who designed a box with a book closure, also called a book jacket rigid box. The special feature is that it replaces the magnet closure typical of the book jacket box with an interlocking closure, realised by applying a coated stretched cardboard plank to the inside of the lid, which acts as a hinge and which fits into the bottom of the box. In functional terms, this system is comparable to the one with magnets, but is more sustainable because it makes the box 100% mono-material, and therefore completely recyclable. Completing the box is a band made of die-cut paper that serves as a sealing system. The band is not glued but closes with an interlocking system.
Printing is done in UV offset with backing blanks on four paste-dyed papers from the Icma collections. Three hot stamping passes in three different colours and micro-etched details were then made.

Paper by Icma
Internal book
Icma LINEN 5210/62 (green)
Closing stop
Icma LINEN 5210/62 (turquoise)
The inner book and end stop are made of 120 gsm light green LINEN paper (1210/62), available in the KIND palette. KIND is Icma’s manifesto collection, made of 100% recycled papers, FSC Recycled Credit certified, produced without chlorine and optical brighteners, whose cellulose comes directly from the pulp mill, with significant savings in water, energy and CO2 emissions. The LINEN collection reproduces the textures and melange colours of linen, a noble and fresh upholstery material. Thanks to the historical embossing and bi-colouring process, Icma has considerably reduced the use of pigments, further reducing the impact of these papers and thus creating a fresh, sober and truly sustainable collection.
External book
Icma SILVER 1431/82 (silver)
The external part is in 110 gsm FSC Recycled Credit certified SILVER 1431/82 paper, with the new platinum colour, made on a 100% recycled base, demonstrating that beauty and sustainability can give life to unique and rich papers, for beautiful and environmentally friendly packaging. Icma thus continues on its path of sustainability, a path that envisages a gradual transition to 100% recycled and recyclable supports.
Band
Icma LINEN 1216/62 (kraft)
The band is made of LINEN 1216/62 125 gsm paper, 100% recycled and ennobled with a linen effect embossing, a historical Icma process that simply enhances a base paper with reduced environmental impact.

Hot colours and cliché by Luxoro
The entire box is dotted with ennobling effects that give brilliance and structure to the design. Immediately noticeable on the cover are two colours from the LUXOR® line, a metallic turquoise and red on the lettering and printed with beautiful micro-etched effects: a texture creates infinite facets with a play of light and shadow that allows the viewer to go beyond the surface. The two colours are also repeated on the back and on the gusset with a flat hot stamping. On the gusset, the central figure has elements decorated with LUMAFIN® RED, a bright red thanks to its characteristic glossy effect, it almost looks like a neon colour, bold yet elegant. Cliché hinderer + mühlich Italia.
