How PRINTlovers 97 is made

Wealth and opportunity, history and culture, tree and fruit. The olive tree is the very essence of civilisation, mentioned in Greek mythology as many times as there are leaves on its branches. Elais (olive), daughter of Aniou and Dorippe, together with her sisters Oino (wine) and Spermò (wheat), are the personified abundance on which man has built the very idea of the Mediterranean.
To her and her liquid gold – oil – PRINTlovers dedicates the cover of this issue. Wrapped in the thick foliage of olive branches laden with fruit, the figure of Elais is enclosed in a play of solids and voids that reveals the texture of paper mixed with a percentage of olive pomace, a manifestation of her more profound nature. At the end of the journey through these pages, Elais reveals her true nature: we see her break boundaries, become liquid and resist any attempt to contain her, and, in this act of sacred rebellion, give us her most precious fruits.
The cover and back cover design is by Advision.

THE PRINTING
Almost as if it were a hymn to Spring, for the Print97 back cover, Varigrafica offers an H-UV offset print in delicate and full-of-life colours in the guise of a woman. The special effect created using MyFlora-Up Olivestone paper is further enhanced by hot stamping with Lumafin® 799 Clear, a dense weave of translucent leaves that refer to an incorporeality that fills the page. Other enhancing elements are the gold pearls in Luxor® 427, and here too, the olive daughters of Elais are created through a hot-printed cliché. Lastly, the woman's body comes to the reader through an exchange of different thicknesses and heights. In this way, the embossing, intertwining with the paper, gives our Goddess a three-dimensionality that engages and touches the viewer.

THE ENHANCEMENTS
LUXOR® 427 and LUMAFIN® 799 ClearThe design features various hot-printing applications on both the female figure and the olive branches. Elais, the patroness of olive oil, is a three-dimensional figure that takes shape thanks to a three-layer embossing: the paper is sculpted to create a beautiful tactile effect. The golden details on the design result from hot-printed LUXOR® 427 - glitter inserts that recall the oil's colour and the sun's reflections. There are also shiny elements scattered over the leaves, a glossy and transparent effect achieved with hot-printed LUMAFIN® 799 Clear. The clichés are all hinderer + mühlich Italia.

THE PAPER
myFlora-Up Olivestone 240 gm and 350 gm
Flora-Up Olivestone is a circular economy project arising from the collaboration between myCordenons, Fratelli Carli and ULI Design. It is a paper produced using stones recovered from the processing of olives for oil pressing, which are finely ground and added to the pulp and water mixture. The resulting product is 100% recyclable, compostable and biodegradable but retains the strength of a traditional paper.
